Ladies and gentlemen, our beloved Alexandria, city of culture and sports,
is waiting for you.
As I told you, ladies and gentlemen,
a reborn nation is eager to receive you in Egypt.
Now it's in your hands.
Give us a chance and we will exceed your expectations.
Merci pour cette présentation.
Nous ouvrons le débat pour...
...will be the Josef Félix Ballesteros, Mayor of Tarragona
and President of our BIT Committee.
He represents a territory excited about the idea of hosting the Mediterranean Gate,
but also during this process he has been the one.
He leads a team of sport, professional and experts in different fields working to offer you the best project.
Later on, a double Olympic champion and current sport manager, well-known by you,
will speak on behalf of the Spanish athlete, Teresa Zabel,
vice-president of the Spanish Olympic Committee and members of the executive committee of this organisation.
Their experience and dedication have been very useful for our BIT files.
Javier Odriozola, General Director of International Sport of the Government of Spain,
will then step in, speaking on behalf of the Spanish Government.
He will certify the complete political and institutional unity surrounding this BIT,
the organisational experience of Spain and the commitment made by the Government.
The Secretary-General of the Spanish Olympic Committee and President of the Technical Commission of the Mediterranean Games,
Victor Sánchez, will then continue providing you with a summary of the technical aspects of our BIT.
Mr. President, ladies and gentlemen, our project,
jointly conceived by the Spanish Olympic Committee and the Municipality of Tarragona,
with the unanimous support of the institutions and organisations involved,
is the result of a work carried out with great care, accuracy and passion,
in order to offer you the National Olympic Committee,
as well as the participating athletes and officials,
ensure our beloved Mediterranean family, with this game, focus on excellence.
I shall now give the floor to Josep Félix Ballesteros, Mayor of Tarragona.
Thank you.
Tarragona a un long trajectoire esportif,

But for those of you who do not know me, let me present myself as an extremely lucky person.
As many of you already know, I had a successful sporting career.
And as my president already said, I won two Olympic gold medals in Barcelona and in Atlanta.
But probably what many of you do not know is that I also won a gold medal
in the Mediterranean Games in France in 1993.
And when you have been that lucky, I think that you have to try and give something back.
But how do you do this?
Well, I think by getting involved in sports institutions and sports structures.
At the moment, I am the vice president of the Spanish National Olympic Committee.
I belong to the executive committee of this association.
And I am part of the big committee of the Tarragona 2017 Mediterranean Games.
But now I would like to talk to you about sports in Spain,
where I can assure you it plays a very important role in our lives.
Over the past years, Spain and sports have really got on very well together.
This is due, on one hand, to the number of high-level competitions we have very successfully held in our country.
And on the other hand, thanks to our sportsmen and women,
who have achieved the most extraordinary results in all kinds of different sports.
And I must let you know here today that all these wonderful sportsmen and women are all supporting Tarragona 2017.
However, I must say that if there is something that really fascinates me about Tarragona,
that is its sporting vocation.
Starting from grassroots and going all the way up to the highest level,
there is always someone practicing some kind of sport in one of Tarragona's clubs.
And you know what? They add up to over one million users per year.
Now, recently the university carried out a study,
and it turned out that practically 90% of Tarragona's population knows about the Mediterranean Games.
And what is more, they appreciate them a lot.
And this is not at all strange if we take into account
that 61 sportsmen and women from Tarragona have already participated in our games.
But if we go a step further in the study,
we learn that these citizens have even expressed their strong wish
for these games to be held in Tarragona in 2017.
Ladies and gentlemen, I can assure you that my commitment with the Mediterranean Games is 100%.
You can imagine, I really want the best for our games.
Quite sincerely, I think that the time has come to really raise the bar for future editions
and give the Mediterranean Games the standard and the recognition that we really deserve to have.
So now, ladies and gentlemen, I can assure you all that Tarragona is perfectly ready,
and perfectly capable, and wishing to do so.
So please, believe me, yes, we can.
Thank you very much. Merci beaucoup. Shukran. Muchas gracias.
President.
Apoyo la candidatura de Tarragona porque deseo lo mejor para los Juegos Mediterráneos.
Tarragona 2017, history making history.
President, ladies and gentlemen, I have the great pleasure of speaking to this assembly
as the highest international sport authority in Spain,
to witness the full support of the government of Spain,
as well as all the relevant Spanish institutions,
to the bid of Tarragona for the organization of the 2017 Mediterranean Games.
Sport plays a very important role in Spanish life.
As you know, in recent years, Spain has organized many major international sport events,
giving full satisfaction to the international federations involved,
as well as to all the participants.
The spectacular success in international sport competitions achieved by Spain
make us all very proud and bring excitement to the entire society.
Hosting the 2017 Mediterranean Games is both a desire and a challenge,
not only for the city of Tarragona, but for the whole of Spain.
The Mediterranean Games left a wonderful legacy in Spain thanks to Almería 2005.
This legacy reinforces the institutional unanimity around the bid of Tarragona,
where the aim is to offer a first-class sport event in 2017,
reaching the highest level of excellence in its organization.
Spain and Spanish sports are committed to the Mediterranean Games,
as we are convinced that they are, and should continue to be,
the best multi-sports event shared by the countries embraced by the Mediterranean,
which gives its name to the Games and to this association.
We are aware of the challenge that an organization on such a large scale requires,
and we have made a great effort to present a proposal which ensures sport, organization and legacy success,
and at the same time is respectful with the environment and attractive for the people of Tarragona and the participants.
After an intense and coordinated work carried out by the different bodies involved in the bid for Tarragona 2017,
today we present a project which we all believe is the best,
and which has received all the necessary guarantees from the Government of Spain, represented here by myself.
President, ladies and gentlemen,
Spain is a well-known trademark for success in sport.
Tarragona 2017 is a guarantee for the Mediterranean Games' success,
both in organization and in sport results.
Come to Tarragona.
Tarragona.
You won't regret it.
You'll enjoy it.
Thank you.
Thank you.

I've been waiting for today.

1-1-2 building. 1-1-2 is the number to call in Europe for any kind of emergency.
Serving the whole region is located at the heart of the map
and it centralizes all kinds of emergency, health, security, traffic, natural disaster and fire.
In our aim to give full safety to the Mediterranean family,
our bid includes more than 2,000 beds in seven public hospitals
served by 1,500 sanitary professionals
and two IOC accredited laboratories for anti-doping controls in Madrid and Barcelona.
We give special importance to media coverage of the games.
Thus, we place at the heart of our project the MPC and the IBC,
both located at Tarragona's Congress and Exhibition Center.
The games in Tarragona will benefit from full TV broadcasting
and the signal will be put at the disposal of every participating country,
free of charge for the promotion of the games.
We present a welcoming project for all the participants and visitors
with an attractive offer of culture.
This offer includes our traditional festivals which receive worldwide recognition.
We also put at your disposal a wide range of leisure activities,
not only in resorts or beaches,
but also in one of the biggest theme parks in the world,
Porta Aventura,
as well as three aquatic parks close to Tarragona.
You will find in Tarragona excellent commercial areas,
traditional shops and markets downtown,
as well as four great malls less than 10 minutes from the Mediterranean village.
There are also among the 40 restaurants renowned for the culinary excellence.
Mr. President, ladies and gentlemen,
our project, as explained, is solid, enthusiastic, respectful, compact, feasible,
of quality, safe, and welcoming.
Certainly, it's an ideal project for the Mediterranean family.
Thank you for your kind attention.
Merci, chukram.
Show me a man without dreams
And I'll show you just a man
Show me a man with big dreams
And I'll show you a man who can change history
Isn't past history the essence of future dreams?
We've been preparing for this for more than 2,000 years
We're ready
Tarragona 2017
History making history
Mr. President, dear colleagues,
We are concluding our presentation.
During the last minutes,
we have been submitting
to your consideration
the reason for our bid
strength, unanimity,
passion, feasibility,
security, capability,
experience, and accuracy.
We trust on how we transmit
the same conviction that we have
about the excellence of our project.
You know us very well.
We have always been a part of this great
and beloved Mediterranean family.
And today, we ask you for your confidence.
We strongly believe in Tarragona's project.
And we also think that Tarragona
deserved the Games in 2017.
And as for the future of the Games,
they definitely deserved the project
of Tarragona 2017.
Please, vote for Tarragona.
And we promise that you will never feel
disappointed by your decision.
Thank you very much.
Merci beaucoup.
We open the debate
for maximum 15 minutes.
Y'a-t-il des questions?
Une question,
pas un discours.
Que ce soit...
Sinon, je vous coupe.
OK?
Attends.
Lahda.
Lahda, lahda, lahda.
Alors, je prends note
des noms qui veulent intervenir.
Samir.
Tony.
Tony.
D'autres?
Je vous prie d'être très bref.
Sinon, je serai dans l'obligation
de vous couper.
Mr. President,
my dear friends and colleagues,
my question has three parts.
Part one,
regarding the
people of Tarragona.
Is the people of Tarragona
support hosting the game?
Second part,
is the central,
federal government
guarantee hosting the game?
and how much money
allocate
as a budget
for the game?
Third part,
regarding the
financial crisis
in Europe.
What is the
point of view,
opinion of the
financial authority
in Spain
about the
game
and the
allocation
of the
game?
Thank you.
Monsieur le Président,
à peu près
la même question,
la crise
en Europe
financière,
deuxièmement,
le problème
de sécurité
seulement.
merci d'avance.
Just I'd like to ask
for any town
who would like to host
any competition,
just as we see,
it is a good bid
for Tarragona,
but I'd like to ask
what is the legacy
for Tarragona
after the competition.
Thank you.
Bien.
S'il vous plaît,
les réponses.
Oui, je suis,
je suis monsieur le maire
de Tarragone
et on va répondre
à les deux premières questions.
La première est
par la crise.
Ce n'est pas un problème.
Ce n'est pas un problème.
On a des garanties
du gouvernement
de la Catalogne,
de la ville,
de la province
et aussi
de l'Espagne.
On a des garanties
par confirmé
d'un document
qu'on a apporté
en ce moment
et que nous avons
en ce moment aussi.
Peut-être
il y a des crises,
mais
nous sommes
déjà
fait
les 80%
des vêtements
des vêtements
esportifs.
Alors,
c'est pour ça
que nous
pouvons dire
que nous sommes
prêts.
Nous sommes prêts
no seulement
parce qu'on a
une idée
virtuelle,
sinó
parce que
nous avons
réalisé
déjà
un grand
pacte
de travail
Bruxelles.
Alors,
il y a aussi
d'entusiasme.
On a déjà
presque
4.000
volontaires
qui
travaillent
en ce moment
par la candidature
qui travaille maintenant.
On a
en unité
des administrations
et des institucions
publiques
et aussi
on a
un grand
support
malgré
la crise
des entreprises,
de grandes entreprises,
des sponsors
privés
que maintenant
a
apporté,
ils ont apporté
les 80%
aussi
d'argent
pour avoir
la candidature
jusqu'au moment
et à partir
du moment
de la
notre
nomination,
si est que ça
c'est possible,
il y a
un accord
de conseil
des ministres
de l'Espagne
qu'on a eu
pour Tarragon
bénéfices
fiscaux
pour des entreprises
qu'ils vont
invertir,
qui vont poser
d'argent
à l'organisation
et aussi
pour des vêtements
sportifs
qu'il faut
faire.
Alors,
par la
sûreté,
Tarragon
a le meilleur
centre
de l'Europe
en sûreté,
en suivant
des problèmes
atmosphériques
et aussi
d'autres
problèmes
et Tarragon
a la taxe
plus vente
de la
Méditerranée
espagnol
par
sûreté.
Nous sommes
seulement
45
encedants
par
10.000
habitants
et
ans.
Tarragon
à la plus vaste
tâche
d'inserté
de toute l'Espanya.
Regarding legacy,
the question
raised by
the president
of the
GCL Olympic Committee,
I already
explained
one part
of the
material legacy.
Maybe
the
president
was
not
attending
the
Almeria
Games
but
in 2005
but
I can
assure you
that
for
a
city
of
the
size
of
Almeria
or
the
size
of
Tarragona
so
not
a
big
city
the
Mediterranean
Games
can
change
completely
the
look
of
the
city.
So
in
Almeria
we
had
new
sports
development
and
new
infrastructure
development.
You
could not
recognize
now
the
former
Almeria
before
and
Almeria
after
the
games.
Tarragona
is
eager
to
host
the
Mediterranean
Games
because
they
would like
to have
a
modern
complex
in
athletics
mediterranean
pavilion
and
aquatic
center
as
I
explained
already
to
you.
They
would like
to have
the
mediterranean
village
as
an
urban
development
of
the
city.
They
would like
to
remake
the
necessary
infrastructure
to
welcome
the
Mediterranean
Games
because
they
would like
to
run
further
to
the
prosperity.
Thank you very much.
